As the world continues to struggle to contain the spread of the wildly infectious COVID-19, the Essendon Football Club has taken extreme steps to safeguard the health and well-being of its senior coach, revealing today that Ben Rutten will spend the entirety of 2021 self-isolating at the True Value Solar Center.
The extraordinary, but ultimately necessary, self-imposed quarantine will force the newly minted coach to work with his players on a remote basis.
This will see him continue in a mentoring role for all 44 players over Zoom once they have taken up contracts with other AFL clubs.
With less responsibility and far more time on his hands, Rutten will be provided with a Playstation 5 and is expected to complete a course in sourdough bread-making.
More to come.
