Carlton has moved to immortalise one of its most successful periods in the modern era, today unfurling a special edition guernsey celebrating the infamous four-match winning streak which came to a dramatic end on Saturday night.
From round five through to round eight of the 2016 premiership season, a rampant Carlton dominated its competition with a brand of football that was as ruthless as it was skillful. While former coach Mick Malthouse tried to take credit for the dynasty, the Blues were in truth led by fearless captain Marc Murphy and rugby league convert Levi Casboult, quickly equalling their tally of wins from the previous season and announcing themselves as a genuine low-to-mid-table team.
All of the 42 current players will have their names etched into history, arranged neatly in sizeable font on the back of the jumper to mark their contributions and also so that coach Brendan Bolton can familiarize himself with the list. The stunning design will be unveiled at a special luncheon this week, where all players from the club’s 2005 Wizard Home Loans Preseason cup-winning team will be in attendance.
