Fremantle’s midfield stocks have been struck a huge blow, with high profile recruit Harley Bennell unlikely to take further part in the 2017 season after becoming stranded on a private Bahamian island following the inaugural Fyre Festival.
Organized by Ja Rule and billed as a weekend-long party for the rich and famous, Fyre Festival soon descended into chaos when attendees arrived on the island to find disaster shelters and a pack of stray dogs as the only sign of life – no A-list models in sight.
Caught in the crossfire was Bennell, who had purchased his Fyre Festival ticket after turning up to Perth Airport blind drunk and watching an Instagram promotional video on his mobile at the ticket counter.
Most attendees were evacuated early in the week, but Fremantle have confirmed that their star onballer remains on Exumas Island, reportedly holding out hope that Major Lazer will turn up for his sunrise set.
“We have been in contact with Harley and he is unharmed, he was actually very chatty,” said coach Ross Lyon. “At the moment we are targeting a round one 2018 return.”
