Matthew Kreuzer Declares Himself Fit To Play

Carlton’s ruck stocks have received a huge boost ahead of Sunday’s clash with Geelong, with a near-comatose Matthew Kreuzer momentarily waking from a two-week stupor and declaring himself fit to take the field.

Kreuzer has been bed-ridden since injuring himself in Carlton’s thrilling round eight win over Port Adelaide, with medical experts ruling him out for a month. But the Blues big man has made a miraculous recovery, yanking IV drips from his chest and arms and sitting upright in the intensive care unit for long enough to mutter the words, “I’ll play.”

Despite his bold declaration, the injury-prone ruckman will still need to prove he is physically ready before being named in Carlton’s best 22, a gruelling process that will require him to both stand and handle a football without suffering another injury.
