Brent Harvey has taken a surprisingly “hands on” role in his new mentoring position at North Melbourne, turning up to training unannounced and blowing the playing group away in the 3km time trial in a desperate bid to reclaim his place in the side.
“Brent, you’re not even supposed to come in on Wednesdays,” an unimpressed Brad Scott told the retired 38-year-old, who is yet to clean out his locker at Arden St. “You need to let this go mate.”
Harvey has revealed to friends and family that he is excited by his new mentoring role at the Kangaroos, and is looking forward to nurturing and encouraging the club’s young talent before outperforming them at training and making a bulletproof case for selection in next month’s JLT Community Series.
“Reckon this little performance is enough to get me a run in the pre-season comp Scotty?” he asked the coach following the time trial. “I’ll wear the green vest if I have to.”
