Zac Dawson Onboard With Ross Lyon’s Plan To Keep Him Fresh For Finals

After taking a while to come around to the idea, Fremantle enforcer Zac “The Iron Fist” Dawson has thrown his support behind Ross Lyon’s audacious strategy to keep him fresh for finals and agreed to sit out the remainder of the 2017 home-and-away season.

Lyon made the calculated decision to place his backline general in cotton wool ahead of last week’s clash against the Western Bulldogs and an in form Travis Cloke, a move that was seen as risky at best and downright reckless at worst.

But it paid dividends with the Dockers now at 2-2 and surging toward September, their not-so-secret weapon spending valuable time on the sidelines recuperating his severely swollen knuckles.

“It’s hard watching the boys run out there without me, but the biggest challenge is not being allowed to punch any footballs for 18 weeks, I don’t know what to do with myself,” said the 31-year-old veteran.
